The Ortonville Police Department serves a resident population of approximately 2,000 people. Ortonville is located in Big Stone County, in west-central Minnesota at the foot of Big Stone Lake, and is also the Headwaters to the Minnesota River. Ortonville has MN Hwy 7, US Hwy 75, and US Hwy 12 traveling through its city limits. Ortonville also serves as the county seat.
The Ortonville Police Department consists of the Chief of Police, 2 full-time & 3 part-time sworn personnel, and a part-time records / secretary. Although small, the department offers many prevention programs for its citizens including: House Watch, Key Keeper Program, Safe & Sober, Bicycle Safety & Registration, Operation I.D., and Minnesota Crime Prevention Twins Baseball Trading Cards.
One of the goals of the Ortonville Police Department is to stay connected to city residents as well as visitors to our area. I believe it is vital to keep citizens aware of what is going on in the community and to keep an open line of communication, and with this we can make a positive difference. This website is one of our ways at making this goal happen and we have developed it to offer up-to-date information to inform city residents or anyone visiting our area.
